Juan Carlos Acevedo (born May 5, 1970 in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico) is a former right-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball. He attended Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville, Illinois.[1]
During his career, Acevedo served primarily as a relief pitcher, starting only 34 of his 366 games played.[1] Extensively traded during his 8-year career and known as a journeyman, Acevedo played for the Colorado Rockies, Detroit Tigers, Florida Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers, New York Mets, New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, and Toronto Blue Jays.[1] He finished his major league career with a 4.33 ERA and a 28 wins to 40 losses record.[1] His 28 saves in a season for Detroit in 2002 is a record for a Mexican-born pitcher.[2] He retired after the 2003 season.
In March 2010 he was sentenced to 6 months in jail for contempt of court in violating the financial terms of his divorce settlement.[3]
